Jeffrey Rubin to Serve as Interim Dean of the School of Information Studies

Jeff Hemsley, who has served in the role since 2024, will step down following Commencement.

, 网爆门鈥檚 senior vice president for digital transformation and chief digital officer, has been appointed interim dean of the聽聽(iSchool), effective Monday, May 11.

, who has served as iSchool interim dean since 2024, has announced plans to step down from the position following Commencement.

鈥淚 am grateful to Jeff Rubin for stepping up to lead the iSchool during this period of transition. His experience and commitment to the iSchool鈥檚 mission make him exceptionally well-positioned to lead the school, and I look forward to the work ahead,鈥 says Vice Chancellor, Provost and Chief Academic Officer聽, who met with iSchool faculty earlier this week to discuss the interim appointment. 鈥淚 also extend my deepest gratitude to Jeff Hemsley for his steady, thoughtful leadership of the iSchool during the last two years.鈥

Rubin, an iSchool alumnus and longtime member of the iSchool faculty, will continue to advance the University鈥檚 digital transformation efforts and lead .聽He previously served as special advisor to the chancellor on digital transformation. He is also the founder of SIDEARM Sports, where he spent 28 years building the leading digital platform for college athletics. A dedicated teacher and mentor, he was recognized with the iSchool鈥檚 Jeffrey Katzer Professor of the Year Award in 2001, 2016 and 2022.聽 He was also recently honored with the Chancellor鈥檚 Award for Innovation.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a great honor to step into this role at the iSchool, which is a place that means a lot to me,鈥 Rubin says. 鈥淚 earned my degrees there and have spent my career there, and I have experienced firsthand the dedication and talent of the school鈥檚 students, faculty and staff. The school has been in good hands with Jeff Hemsley, and I am grateful for the example of his leadership.鈥

The iSchool experienced a number of successes during Hemsley鈥檚 tenure, including the launch of the master鈥檚 degree in program in聽聽and the聽聽minor, as well as the establishment of the Chancellor Kent Syverud and Dr. Ruth Chen Endowed Chair in Applied Artificial Intelligence.
